Cranston stands out as a master-planned residential neighborhood situated in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. Since its inception in 1999 by Carma Developments, Cranston has transformed from farming land into a diverse and vibrant community.

Geographic Coordinates and Boundaries

Nestled at 50°53′32″N 113°59′01″W, Cranston is flanked by Stoney Trail in the north, while Fish Creek Park and the Bow River grace its western and southern boundaries. To the east, it is bordered by Deerfoot Trail, with Auburn Bay and the innovative town centre development of Seton and South Health Campus hospital nearby. Cranston is perched at an elevation of 1,045 m (3,428 ft), providing residents with a serene living environment.

Population and Demographics

According to the City of Calgary’s 2012 municipal census, Cranston housed a population of 11,857 across 4,625 dwellings, marking a 9.5% increase from its 2011 population of 10,831. Spanning a land area of 8.3 km² (3.2 sq mi), the community boasted a population density of 1,429/km² (3,700/sq mi).

Cranston supports the educational needs of its younger residents through the Calgary Board of Education’s Cranston Elementary School, catering to K-4 students, and the Calgary Catholic School District’s Christ the King School. Furthermore, Doctor George Stanley school opened its doors in January 2017.

Transit Services

Calgary Transit ensures that Cranston remains well-connected, with Bus Route 14 serving the western end, Route 406 covering the eastern end, and Route 468 operating in the southern end of the community.

Cranston Residents Association (CRA) and Century Hall

The Cranston Residents Association, located directly across from the Market at Century Hall, offers an array of facilities to the community’s residents, inclusive in their homeowner association fees. The facility boasts a full-size gymnasium, a 2.8-hectare (7-acre) gated park, tennis courts, a hockey rink, basketball courts, a playground, and a waterpark. Non-residents can also access the facility for a nominal fee, ensuring a vibrant and inclusive community spirit.
