Situated at the western outskirts of Calgary, Alberta, Discovery Ridge is a residential neighbourhood that seamlessly blends natural beauty with modern living. With its prime location in the southwest quadrant of the city, the community has become one of the city’s most desirable areas to reside.

Geographic Location

Discovery Ridge is bordered by Stoney Trail to the north, 69 Street W to the east, and the Rocky View County along with the city limits to the west. The southern boundary of the community is adorned by the Elbow River and the Tsuu T’ina First Nation reserve, adding a layer of natural beauty and tranquility to the area.

Historical Background

Long before it became a residential hub, this area was known among the long-time residents of Calgary as “Jackson’s Valley”, an isolated and serene valley adjacent to the Sarcee Military Reserve. The late 1990s marked the transformation of Discovery Ridge, initially referred to as New Discovery. The initial plans for the area included a gated community concept, which was later dismissed, opening up Discovery Ridge to the public. The development in the early 1990s was spearheaded by a dedicated developer, aiming to create a unique living experience.

Demographics

According to the City of Calgary’s 2012 municipal census, Discovery Ridge was home to 4,350 residents living across 1,649 dwellings, reflecting a 0.7% increase from its population in 2011. Spanning over an area of 3.6 km², the community boasted a population density of 1,208/km² or 3,130/sq mi.
