Location and Boundaries

Glendale is strategically positioned south of 17th Avenue SW, east of Sarcee Trail and Signal Hill, and west of 37 Street SW and Killarney. This prime location allows residents easy access to the broader city while retaining a quiet, community-focused living space. Glendale spans across a total area of 1.3 km² (0.5 sq mi) and sits at an elevation of 1,150 m (3,770 ft).

History and Development

The neighborhood was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1956 and established as a residential area in 1955. Glendale has since developed into a thriving community, with the Optimist Athletic Park being one of its notable amenities. The area is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 6 councillor.

Demographics

In the 2012 municipal census conducted by the City of Calgary, Glendale had a population of 2,749 living in 1,111 dwellings, reflecting a slight 0.7% increase from its 2011 population of 2,730. The neighborhood boasts a population density of 1,960/km² (5,090/sq mi).

Residents had a median household income of $55,400 in 2000, and the neighborhood maintained a low rate of low-income residents, at 10.2%. The immigrant population constituted 18% of the residents, contributing to the community’s diversity. Regarding housing, 9.1% of the buildings were condominiums or apartments, and 20.1% of the housing units were rented.
