Geography

Scarboro’s geographical coordinates, 51°02′20″N 114°06′29″W, position it strategically in Calgary’s inner city, between Bow Trail, 24th Street West, and 14th Street West. The neighborhood is defined by its north-south boundaries of 12th Avenue South and 17th Avenue South. Crowchild Trail freeway bisects the community, dividing it into Scarboro proper on Scarboro Hill, predominantly featuring detached homes, and Upper Scarboro (officially Scarboro/Sunalta West), a smaller residential area to the west of Crowchild Trail.

Demography

According to the City of Calgary’s 2012 municipal census, Scarboro proper had a population of 880 residing in 343 dwellings, marking a slight increase from its 2011 population of 870. The area spans 0.5 km² (0.19 sq mi), resulting in a population density of 1,760/km² (4,600/sq mi).

Scarboro/Sunalta West, on the other hand, housed 410 individuals in 165 dwellings, experiencing a 3.3% population increase from its 2011 figure of 397. This area covers 0.4 km² (0.15 sq mi), boasting a population density of 1,030/km² (2,700/sq mi).

Education
