Palliser, a vibrant residential neighbourhood in Calgary’s southwest quadrant, embodies a rich history and a strong sense of community. Named after John Palliser, a prominent explorer and geographer of western Canada, the neighbourhood was established in 1967. It is strategically bounded by 90 Ave SW to the north, 19 Street SW to the east, Southland Drive SW to the south, and 24 Street SW to the west, encompassing the Tom Brook Athletic Park within its borders.

Demographics

The 2012 municipal census by the City of Calgary recorded a population of 3,293 residing in 1,707 dwellings in Palliser, reflecting a slight decrease of 0.2% from its 2011 population of 3,301. With a land area of 1 km² (0.39 sq mi), the population density stood at 3,300/km² (9,000/sq mi).

The community reported a median household income of $57,603 in 2000, with 7.3% of the residents living below the low-income threshold. Approximately 20.2% of Palliser’s residents were immigrants, 40.1% of the buildings were condominiums or apartments, and 36.8% of the housing was utilized for renting purposes.

Education

Palliser ensures its younger residents have access to quality education through Nellie McClung Elementary School and John Ware Junior High School. Additionally, St. Benedict Elementary School offers an option for a separate school education. Notably, Nellie McClung Elementary hosts a GATE program, fostering an enriched learning environment.
