Evergreen, including Evergreen Estates, is a picturesque suburban residential neighborhood located in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. Positioned south of the Fish Creek Provincial Park and southeast of the Tsuu T’ina first nation reserve, Evergreen offers a serene and peaceful living environment.

Location and Divisions

Evergreen is divided into two distinct sections:

  1. Evergreen Estates: The older, more established section.
  2. Evergreen: The newer section located to the south.

Each section maintains separate community associations and distinct street naming patterns.

Community Associations

  • Streets named with “Evergreen” belong to the Shawnee-Evergreen Community Association, which also includes the neighboring community of Shawnee Slopes.
  • Streets with different names are part of the Calgary Evergreen Community Association.

Population and Demographics

As of the 2011 census, Evergreen had a total population of 19,487. This figure increased by 3.2% to 20,110 in the 2012 municipal census, with residents living across 6,961 dwellings. The neighborhood spans a land area of 4.6 km² (1.8 sq mi), resulting in a population density of 4,370/km² (11,320/sq mi).

Residents in Evergreen had a median household income of $105,640 in 2000. The neighborhood had 3.9% of low-income residents, and 18.2% of residents were immigrants. All buildings in Evergreen were single-family detached homes, with 1.3% of the housing being used for renting.

Education

  • Evergreen Elementary School: Opened in 2009 by the Calgary Board of Education, serving Kindergarten to Grade 5 students.
  • Marshall Springs Middle School: Opened in September 2017, serving Grade 6 to Grade 9 students.
  • Dr. Freda Miller School: Opened for the 2020-2021 school year, accommodating Kindergarten to Grade 5.
  • Our Lady of the Evergreens School: Operated by the Calgary Catholic School District, offering Kindergarten to Grade 6.
