Ranchlands is a serene residential neighborhood located in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. Established in 1977 after being annexed to the City of Calgary in 1961, Ranchlands has grown to become a vibrant community, offering a blend of residential amenities and natural beauty.

Location

The community is geographically positioned with John Laurie Boulevard to the north, Sarcee Trail to the east, Crowchild Trail to the south, and Nose Hill Drive to the west. Spanning across an area of 2.3 km² (0.9 sq mi), Ranchlands sits at an elevation of 1,160 m (3,810 ft).

Demographics

As of the 2012 municipal census, Ranchlands had a population of 7,626, housed in 3,051 dwellings. This marked a 1.3% increase from the 2011 population of 7,529. The community boasts a population density of 3,320/km² (8,590/sq mi).

The median household income in Ranchlands was $60,727 in 2000. About 15.1% of the residents are considered low income. 21.7% of the population are immigrants, 9% of the buildings are condominiums or apartments, and 27.4% of the housing is used for renting.

Education

Education in Ranchlands is diverse, with the community being served by Ranchlands Community Public School and St. Rita Elementary School under the Catholic Board of Education. Additionally, the community hosts two weekend Islamic Schools, Northwest Islamic School (NWIS) and Al-Salam Academy.
