Annexed by the City of Calgary in the 1960s, the development of Scenic Acres began in earnest in 1981. The neighbourhood has since grown and evolved, becoming a sought-after location for families and professionals alike.

According to the City of Calgary’s 2018 municipal census, Scenic Acres is home to 8,090 residents living in 2,928 dwellings, though this marked a 2.0% decrease from the previous year. The neighbourhood spans 4.3 km² (1.7 sq mi), resulting in a population density of 1,881/km² (4,870/sq mi).

The community boasts an impressive median household income of $145,685 as of 2015, with only 4.0% of residents classified as low-income. Additionally, 22.0% of Scenic Acres’ residents are immigrants, contributing to the cultural diversity of the neighbourhood.

Scenic Acres is predominantly characterized by single-family detached homes, with 4.0% of the housing being used for renting. Only three sites within the community offer single-family attached houses, highlighting the area’s focus on spacious and private living.

The Scenic Acres Community Association was established in 1985 when just 10% of the neighbourhood was developed. The association has played a crucial role in shaping the community, advocating for changes to the Area Structure Plan and working collaboratively with the Ward Alderman and developers to upscale lot sizes, relocate community facilities, and address transportation issues.

Transportation and Accessibility

The opening of the Crowfoot LRT Station on June 5, 2009, marked a significant milestone for Scenic Acres, enhancing the community’s connectivity to the rest of Calgary. Although the station is not directly accessible by road from Scenic Acres, it provides a convenient Park ‘n’ Ride option with approximately 1,350 stalls for commuters.
