Geographics
Encompassing a land area of 2.4 km² and positioned at coordinates 51°09′40″N 114°09′11″W, Sherwood is bounded by major roadways including Sarcee Trail, 128 Avenue N.W./Symons Valley Parkway, Shaganappi Trail, and Stoney Trail. This places the community in close proximity to neighbouring areas such as Nolan Hill, Kincora, and the Hamptons, as well as within the larger Symons Valley region.
Demographics
As of the City of Calgary’s 2012 municipal census, Sherwood had experienced a noteworthy population growth, housing 2,523 residents in 979 dwellings—a 19.6% increase from the 2011 population of 2,109. This results in a population density of 1,051 individuals per km².
Education and Community Engagement
Sherwood is home to a proactive Community Association, established in 2008 by volunteer residents with the aim of fostering community spirit and engagement through various events and initiatives. Memberships are available at an annual fee of $25, contributing to the funding of community events.
One of the community’s highlight events is the annual Multicultural Festival, celebrated for its inclusivity and vibrant showcase of diverse cultures. Additionally, 2017 saw the introduction of a community garden, further enriching the community’s offerings.
In terms of education, Sherwood has collaborated with the Calgary Catholic School District to open Blessed Marie-Rose School. Construction commenced on May 6, 2016, and the school welcomed its first students on September 4, 2018, named in honour of Marie Rose Durocher.
