Flin Flon is a mining city located on the border between Manitoba and Saskatchewan in central Canada. The majority of the city lies within Manitoba, while a smaller section extends into neighbouring Saskatchewan. The community developed in the early twentieth century after the discovery of significant copper and zinc deposits in the surrounding region. Mining activity quickly became the economic foundation of the city and shaped its infrastructure, settlement patterns and regional importance.

The unusual name of Flin Flon originates from a fictional character in an early twentieth-century adventure novel, which explorers referenced while naming the settlement. Over time the city grew into a major mining centre in northern Canada, attracting workers and industries connected to mineral extraction and processing. The rugged landscape of the Canadian Shield, filled with lakes and rocky outcrops, surrounds the city and defines much of its natural environment.

Today Flin Flon continues to be closely associated with mining, while also functioning as a regional service centre for nearby communities. Outdoor recreation such as fishing, boating and hiking is common due to the abundance of lakes and forests across the surrounding region.
