Flin Flon is a mining city located on the border between Manitoba and Saskatchewan in central Canada. The majority of the city lies within Manitoba, while a smaller section extends into neighbouring Saskatchewan. The community developed in the early twentieth century after the discovery of significant copper and zinc deposits in the surrounding region. The unusual name of Flin Flon originates from a fictional character in an early twentieth-century adventure novel, which explorers referenced while naming the settlement.
