Mississauga is a large city in Ontario located west of Toronto along the shores of Lake Ontario. It forms part of the Greater Toronto Area and is one of the largest municipalities in Canada by population.
The city developed rapidly during the late twentieth century as suburban communities expanded beyond Toronto. Mississauga is home to major corporate offices, commercial centres and transportation infrastructure, including Toronto Pearson International Airport which lies partly within the city.
Today Mississauga functions as a major economic and residential centre within the Toronto metropolitan region.
