Sherwood Park is a large urban community located east of Edmonton in Alberta within Strathcona County. Although it functions as a city-sized population centre, it is officially classified as an urban service area rather than an incorporated city.
The community developed rapidly during the second half of the twentieth century as Edmonton expanded. Many residents commute to Edmonton for employment while living in Sherwood Park’s suburban neighbourhoods. Industrial areas and commercial centres also contribute to the local economy.
