Hidden Valley stands as a relatively young residential neighborhood in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. Since its establishment in 1990, it has developed into a vibrant community close to the city’s northern edge.

Location and Geography

Hidden Valley is strategically located, bounded by Stoney Trail to the north, Beddington Trail to the east, Country Hills Boulevard to the south, and Shaganappi Trail to the west. It encompasses a total area of 3.2 km² (1.2 sq mi) and sits at an elevation of 1,135 m (3,724 ft).

Historical Context

Hidden Valley has a history marked by a tragic event, as it was the location of a double homicide in July 2018. However, the community has moved forward since then, continually developing and growing. The first house in Hidden Valley was built in 1991, marking the beginning of its journey as a residential neighborhood.

Demographics

The 2012 municipal census recorded a population of 11,799 living in 3,867 dwellings, a 1.2% increase from 2011. The population density was 2,740/km² (7,110/sq mi). The median household income in Hidden Valley was $78,127 in 2000, with 6.4% of residents classified as low income. Around 20.6% of the population were immigrants, adding to the community’s diversity. In terms of housing, all buildings were single-family detached homes, and 2.1% of the housing was used for renting.
