Positioned at coordinates 51°02′01″N 113°59′17″W, Southview is bordered by 17 Avenue SE to the north, 36 Street SE to the east, 26 Avenue SE to the south, and the Bow River to the west. This location places it in close proximity to both natural beauty and urban amenities.

History

Southview holds the distinction of being the last community to develop inside the Greater Forest Lawn Area, making it a significant part of Calgary’s urban landscape. Additionally, it is part of the International Avenue Business Revitalization Zone, highlighting its importance in local commerce and development.

Demographics

As of the City of Calgary’s 2012 municipal census, Southview had a population of 1,900 living in 936 dwellings, marking a -7.9% decrease from its 2011 population of 2,063. The neighborhood covers a land area of 1.6 km2 (0.62 sq mi), resulting in a population density of 1,190/km2 (3,080/sq mi).

Financially, the median household income in Southview was $44,908 in 2000, with 23.7% of residents classified as low income. The community is diverse, with 14.9% of residents being immigrants as of 2000. In terms of housing, 18.5% of buildings were condominiums or apartments, and 33.9% of housing was used for renting.
