Kingston is a historic city in eastern Ontario located where Lake Ontario meets the Saint Lawrence River and the Rideau Canal. The city played a significant role in early Canadian history and briefly served as the capital of the Province of Canada during the nineteenth century. Its strategic location along important waterways helped shape its development as a military, transportation and trading centre.

The city is widely known for its well-preserved historic architecture, including limestone buildings that earned Kingston the nickname “The Limestone City.” Several important national historic sites are located in the area, including Fort Henry and parts of the Rideau Canal system, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kingston is also home to major educational institutions such as Queen’s University and the Royal Military College of Canada. Today the city combines historic character, waterfront scenery and a vibrant academic community within one of Ontario’s most historically significant urban centres.
