Saguenay is a large city in the province of Quebec located in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region of eastern Canada. The city was formed in 2002 through the amalgamation of several municipalities including Chicoutimi, Jonquière, La Baie, Laterrière and other surrounding communities. Together these areas form one of the largest municipalities in Quebec by land area and population outside the Montréal and Québec City regions.

The city lies along the Saguenay River, a deep fjord-like waterway that connects Lac Saint-Jean to the Saint Lawrence River. This river corridor has played a central role in the history of the region, supporting transportation, trade and industrial development for more than a century. Hydroelectric power and access to natural resources helped establish Saguenay as an important centre for aluminium production, forestry and manufacturing.

Today Saguenay remains the economic and administrative centre of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region. Universities, cultural institutions and regional services attract residents from across the surrounding communities. The dramatic landscapes of the Saguenay Fjord National Park and nearby forests also make the area an important destination for tourism and outdoor recreation.
