Owen Sound is a city in Ontario located on the southern shore of Georgian Bay at the mouth of the Sydenham River. The city historically developed as a port and transportation centre serving communities across the surrounding region.

During the nineteenth century Owen Sound functioned as an important shipping point for goods moving between inland areas and the Great Lakes. Industrial activity and shipbuilding were significant components of the local economy during this period.

Today Owen Sound is known for its scenic waterfront, cultural institutions and proximity to natural attractions such as waterfalls, forests and the rugged landscapes of the Bruce Peninsula.
