Sept-Îles is a coastal city in eastern Quebec located along the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River. The name means “Seven Islands,” referring to a group of islands located just offshore in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
The city developed primarily as a port and industrial centre connected to mining activities in northern Quebec and Labrador. Large quantities of iron ore extracted from inland mining operations are transported through the port facilities in Sept-Îles for international export.
Today Sept-Îles remains an important maritime and industrial hub within the Côte-Nord region, supporting regional trade and transportation along the Saint Lawrence corridor.
