Timmins is a city in northeastern Ontario known for its long history of gold mining and mineral extraction. The discovery of gold deposits in the early twentieth century led to the rapid development of the community and established Timmins as one of the most important mining centres in Canada.
The city grew around mining operations and developed infrastructure to support workers and industries connected to mineral production. Over time Timmins expanded to include residential neighbourhoods, commercial districts and regional services.
Today mining continues to play an important role in the local economy, while the city also serves as a regional hub for transportation, healthcare and education across northeastern Ontario.
