Val-d’Or is a city in western Quebec located in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region. The city’s name means “Valley of Gold,” reflecting the importance of gold mining in the development of the community.

Mining activities began in the region during the early twentieth century following the discovery of significant gold deposits. The industry attracted workers and companies that helped establish Val-d’Or as a major mining centre.

Today the city continues to play an important role in the mining sector while also serving as a regional centre for commerce, transportation and public services across western Quebec.
