Pickering is a city in Ontario located along the northern shore of Lake Ontario within the Regional Municipality of Durham. Positioned immediately east of Toronto, the city forms part of the Greater Toronto Area and has experienced steady residential and economic growth over the past several decades. Its location along major transportation corridors such as Highway 401 and regional rail routes has made it an important commuter community connected to the metropolitan economy of Toronto.

Historically, Pickering began as a rural township with agricultural settlements established during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. As the Toronto metropolitan region expanded, suburban development transformed the area into a modern urban municipality with residential neighbourhoods, commercial centres and employment districts. The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, located near the lakeshore, has long been one of the most significant energy facilities in Ontario.

The city also features a growing waterfront district along Lake Ontario with parks, trails and marinas that attract residents and visitors interested in recreation. Today Pickering continues to develop as a dynamic suburban city balancing urban growth, waterfront landscapes and close economic ties with the Toronto region.
