Trois-Rivières is one of the oldest cities in Canada and is located in Quebec along the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River between Montréal and Québec City. Founded in 1634, the city played an important role in the early development of New France.

The city’s name refers to the three channels formed by the Saint-Maurice River as it flows into the Saint Lawrence. Historically, Trois-Rivières became a major centre for the pulp and paper industry due to the availability of hydroelectric power and nearby forests.

Today Trois-Rivières combines historic architecture, cultural institutions and modern economic activity. It remains an important urban centre within the Mauricie region of Quebec.
